For the second time this week, the Penguins have recalled forward Filip Hallander under emergency conditions from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL).

In 53 AHL games this season, Hallander has 24 points (10 goals, 14 assists). He recorded an assist for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton during a 3-1 home win against the rival Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Tuesday.

Hallander, 21, was a second-round pick (No. 58 overall) in 2018. A native of Sweden, he is in the midst of his first season in North America and has yet to appear in an NHL contest.

He could make his NHL debut in Thursday’s vital road game against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

The NHL permits emergency recalls in the event an NHL club is unable to dress a standard lineup of 12 skaters, six defensemen and two goaltenders.

After the trade deadline — which fell on March 21 this season — NHL team are permitted to make only four standard recalls from their AHL affiliate. Emergency recalls do not count toward that figure, however.

The left-handed Hallander (6-foot-1, 196 pounds) was recalled under similar circumstances Monday but was returned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton by Tuesday.
