The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled defenseman Ryan Shea from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League on Saturday evening prior to their home game against the St. Louis Blues.
Shea was summoned to the NHL club as a result of incumbent defenseman P.O Joseph not being available due to an undisclosed illness.
Opening the season on the NHL roster, Shea has appeared in 22 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins with no points on 13 shots while averaging 12:27 of ice time.
Assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Dec. 19, the left-handed Shea has appeared in four AHL games with that club and has no points on three shots.
A first-year NHLer (who does not qualify for rookie status per the NHL’s guidelines related to his age), the 26-year-old Shea is signed to a one-year contract worth $775,000.
Follow the Penguins all season long.
