Penguins place Juuso Riikola, Colton Sceviour on waivers
The Penguins have placed defenseman Juuso Riikola and forward Colton Sceviour on waivers.
Should each player clear by noon Sunday, the Penguins would be free to move each of them to the taxi squad or even Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.
Such transactions would create roster flexibility needed to potentially activate a player from injured reserve, such as forward Teddy Blueger, or to add a player via trade prior to Monday’s trade deadline.
Riikola has played in two games this season and has no points. Having not played since Jan. 19, Riikola is signed to a two-year contract with a salary cap hit of $1.15 million.
In the final year of a three-year contract with a salary cap hit of $1.2 million, Sceviour has appeared in 31 games this season and has six points (three goals, three assists). This is the second time Sceviour has been waived this season. He cleared March 9.
