Penguins, partners complete improvement projects at PPG Paints Arena
The Pittsburgh Penguins and arena management partner ASM Global finished capital and operational improvements at PPG Paints Arena in time for the start of the Penguins season.
Though fans are not yet permitted to attend games at PPG Paints Arena, the improvements included ways to improve safety and health protocols, brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.
New safety initiatives include drone disinfecting technology in the arena bowl, autonomous UV floor scrubbers, touchless faucets and flush valves in all rest rooms, 200-plus hand sanitizer stations and enhanced cleaning protocols throughout the building.
The arena also meets or exceeds all HVAC guidelines set forth by the NHL and NHLPA in their Return to Play protocols.
“This has been a comprehensive effort by the Penguins and ASM Global staff, working with local health officials and other expert advisors, to ensure the safe return of Penguins hockey to PPG Paints Arena,” Penguins CEO and president David Morehouse said in a statement. “These initiatives and policies will carry over into a post-covid environment. We also have prepared for the return of fans with enhancements for a safe and efficient game-night experience, including mobile ticketing, mobile ordering and touchless self-checkout scanners for food and beverage.”
In addition, the Penguins and food-and-beverage partner, Aramark, made renovations to improve the in-game dining experience.
And Rivers Casino and BetRivers.com are working on a Sportsbook-style lounge in the lower arena bowl.
When fans return, they will have access to an app that will provide a safer, more touchless experience that will include mobile ticketing, mobile wallet and mobile ordering for food, beverages and merchandise inside PPG Paints Arena.
