Penguins once again recall forward Alex Nylander from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton
For the fifth time in 36 days, the Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled forward Alex Nylander from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.
Tuesday’s transaction marks the third time Nylander has been summoned from Northeast Pennsylvania the past week alone.
Emergency recalls are permitted when a regular lineup of 12 forwards, six defensemen and two goaltenders is not available. There was no word on which of the team’s incumbent forwards are potentially unavailable for Tuesday’s regular season home finale against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Forward Nick Bonino remains on long-term injured reserve due to a lacerated kidney while forward Drew O’Connor — who was scratched from Saturday’s 5-1 road win against the Detroit Red Wings due to an undisclosed injury — participated in Monday’s practice session wearing a non-contact jersey.
The right-handed Nylander has played in seven NHL games this season and has two points (one goal, one assist). His goal came in Saturday’s victory.
An All-Star with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season, Nylander has 50 points, including a team-best 25 goals, in 55 AHL games.
Nylander, 25, is signed to a one-year, two-way contract that carries a salary cap hit of $750,000.
