The Penguins’ rotten offseason continues.
Forward Evgeni Malkin underwent surgery on his left elbow the team announced Monday. The nature of the surgery, the extent of the ailment and the date of the procedure were not disclosed.
Malkin is expected to take three to four weeks to recover. NHL training camps for the 2020-21 season are tentatively scheduled to begin Nov. 17.
During the Penguins’ brief four-game participation in the NHL’s postseason tournament this month, Malkin was limited to one assist but did lead the team with 21 shots.
Malkin’s surgery comes less than a week after the team opted to jettison assistant coaches Sergei Gonchar, Jacques Martin and Mark Recchi by not renewing their contracts.
Follow the Penguins all season long.
