Penguins draft forward Tristan Broz in 2nd round
With their first selection in the 2021 draft, the Penguins selected forward Tristan Broz in the second round (No. 58 overall).
Last season, Broz, 18, played for the Fargo Force of the United States Hockey League (USHL). In 54 games, Broz (6-foot, 179 pounds) led the Force with 51 points (19 goals, 32 assists).
In nine postseason games, Broz, a left-handed shot, collected 11 points (three goals, eight assists) as he led the Force to the Clark Cup Final. Listed at center, he predominantly played left wing last season.
A native of Bloomington, Minn, Broz, is committed to the University of Minnesota next season.
“Tristan’s got a good skill set,” Penguins director of player personnel Chris Pryor said. “He can skate. He’s got skill. He’s a competitive kid. He can play center and wing, there’s a versatility there. We like the path he’s going. He’s going to Minnesota next year which gives the kid a little bit of a longer runway from the development part of it. … As we all know, they have a really good program.”
