Penguins co-owners make donation to Highmark, UPMC
Penguins co-owners Ron Burkle and Mario Lemieux have donated $100,000 each to Highmark Health and UPMC for specific programs related to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The donation will be split evenly between the two medical institutions which are described as founding partners of the franchise.
According to a news release from the team, Highmark Health’s portion of the donation will go toward a mobile covid-19 testing unit, intended focus on under-served communities such as Hazelwood, Duquesne, Clairton and the Hill District.
The other portion will benefit the UPMC Children’s Hospital Helpers Fund which offers support to families and caregivers who are impacted by the coronavirus.
