A look at how players with connections to the Penguins have done in the ongoing International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championship Tournament:

Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Casey DeSmith made 30 saves on 32 shots for the United States in a 3-2 comeback win against Germany in a preliminary round game at Nokia Arena in Tampere, Finland on Monday.

Steering the United States to a victory from a one-goal deficit entering the third period, DeSmith was named his team’s player of game and improved his record in the tournament to 2-0-0.

Penguins forward Nick Bonino, primarily deployed as the United States’ top center, logged 20:14 of ice time on 26 shots and was 12 for 28 (42.8%) on faceoffs.

Serving as the United States’ second-line center, Penguins forward Drew O’Connor clocked 18:10 of ice time on 22 shift, recorded one shot and was 5 for 18 (27.7%) in faceoffs.

Penguins defenseman P.O Joseph had 16:42 of ice time on 24 shifts and one shot for Canada which defeated Slovakia, 2-1, in a shootout at Arena Riga in Riga, Latvia.

Penguins forward Alex Nylander recorded 9:37 of ice time on 12 shifts and had one shot for Sweden in a 2-1 shootout win against Finland at Nokia Arena.

Former Penguins forward Kasperi Kapanen recorded an assist for Finland.
