In 10 AHL games this season, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins goaltender Alex D’Orio has a 5-3-1 record.

The Penguins have assigned reserve goaltender Alex D’Orio to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL).

D’Orio, 22, has split time this season between Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Wheeling of the ECHL. In 10 AHL games, he has a 5-3-1 record with a 2.30 goals against average and a .911 save percentage.

During a 1-0 home win against the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday, D’Orio served as the backup goaltender to Max Lagace while starter Tristan Jarry and regular backup Casey DeSmith were sidelined due to undisclosed injuries. It was the first time D’Orio had dressed for an NHL game.

With the AHL’s regular season concluding on May 20 — with no traditional postseason tournament due to the pandemic — D’Orio, a second-year professional, will presumably get the benefit of playing time in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s final two games of the season.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is scheduled to conclude its season with road contests against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Saturday and the Hershey Bears on Sunday.
