The Penguins have announced the roster for their upcoming training camp.

It will involve 40 players, including 23 forwards, 13 defensemen and four goaltenders.

Forwards — Anthony Angello, Zach Aston-Reese, Teddy Blueger, Sidney Crosby, Josh Currie, Frederick Gaudreau, Jake Guentzel, Mark Jankowski, Kasperi Kapanen, Sam Lafferty, Nathan Legare, Evgeni Malkin, Jared McCann, Sam Miletic, Jordan Nolan, Drew O’Connor, Sam Poulin, Evan Rodrigues, Bryan Rust, Colton Sceviour, Brandon Tanev, Radim Zohorna, Jason Zucker.

Defensemen — Cody Ceci, Kevin Czuczman, Brian Dumoulin, Pierre-Olivier Joseph, Cam Lee, Kris Letang, Josh Maniscalco, John Marino, Mike Matheson, Marcus Pettersson, Jussi Riikola, Chad Ruhwedel, Zach Trotman.

Goaltenders — Casey DeSmith, Alex D’Orio, Tristan Jarry, Maxime Lagace.

Camp is scheduled to begin Sunday at PPG Paints Arena and will not include any preseason games. The regular season is slated to open Jan. 13 with the Penguins traveling across the state to face the rival Philadelphia Flyers.

In addition to the maximum of 23 players on the roster, NHL teams will carry taxi squads of four to six players as well as an unlimited number of goaltenders this season. General manager Jim Rutherford has suggested Lagace will be the team’s third goaltender while D’Orio will be assigned to the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL and — because of that franchise’s proximity to Pittsburgh — serve as the fourth goaltender.

This camp will involve a number of new faces added in the offseason, including veterans such as Ceci, Currie, Gaudreau, Jankowski, Lagace, Matheson and Sceviour. Additionally, prospects such as Joseph, Lee, Legare, Maniscalco, Miletic, O’Connor, Poulin and Zohorna are scheduled to attend camp.

This will be Kapanen’s first training camp with the Penguins since 2014. A first-round pick (No. 22 overall) that year, Kapanen was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 2015 offseason and spent five seasons with that organization before returning to the Penguins in another trade this August.

The lone non-roster invitee is Nolan. Signed to an American Hockey League contract with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Dec. 5, the 31-year-old Nolan, a two-time Stanley Cup champion, is a veteran of 375 career NHL games. Rutherford suggested the team will try to sign him to an NHL contract based on how he performs during camp.
