An undisclosed injury has limited Penguins defenseman Juuso Riikola (center) to two games and no points this season.

The Penguins have activated defenseman Juuso Riikola from injured reserve.

He has been sidelined since suffering an undisclosed injury on Jan. 19. In two games this season, Riikola, 27, has no points.

To make room for him on the roster, the Penguins placed forward Jared McCann on injured reserve retroactive to Sunday. McCann, 24, suffered an undisclosed injury during Sunday’s 5-1 home win against the New York Rangers. In 17 games this season, he has 10 points (five goals, five assists).

The team also recalled forward Anthony Angello from its taxi squad. Primarily used on the fourth line, Angello, 25, has played in five games this season and has no points. He was assigned to the taxi squad on Monday.

Forward Josh Currie was recalled from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League and assigned to the taxi squad. Currie, 28, has appeared in one NHL game this season and has no points.

Note: The Penguins hired Katerina Wu as data scientist in the hockey operations department and promoted Nick Citrone to senior data scientist of hockey and business operations.
