Did the New England Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady bring politics onto the football field during Super Bowl XLIII?

During the third quarter with the ball deep in their own territory, the broadcast caught Brady calling: “Reagan. Reagan.”

The audible was apparently a run to the right: Brady handed off to running back Sony Michel, who ran behind the right tackle for a 4-yard gain.

CBS analyst Tony Romo commented that it likely a run to the right, “Obviously Reagan means ‘run to the right.’”

Was it alliteration or politics?

Some were quick to make a connection to former President Ronald Reagan.

Conservative commentator Paris Dennard posted the clip with a call out to Reagan:

As did others.

Brady, coach Bill Belichick and owner Robert Kraft have expressed support of the current Republican occupant of the White House: President Donald Trump.
