Odds on another Pirates/Yankees World Series: 300/1
If you believe anything’s possible in a 60-game baseball season, you can bet on World Series matchups involving the Pittsburgh Pirates.
With fresh enthusiasm generated by first-year manager Derek Shelton, the Pirates resume camp at PNC Park on Wednesday in preparation for the first game in about three weeks.
BetOnline.ag has set odds on the Pirates meeting each of the 15 American League teams in the World Series.
The longest odds are attached to Pirates matchups with the Seattle Mariners, Kansas City Royals, Baltimore Orioles and Detroit Tigers at 5,000/1. All five teams had losing records in 2019.
The shortest odds involve a rematch of the 1960 World Series between the Pirates and New York Yankees (300/1).
The others:
• Astros/Pirates — 500/1.
• Twins/Pirates — 1,000/1 (with Shelton managing against the team that employed him as its bench coach the past two seasons).
• Chicago White Sox, Oakland Athletics, Tampa Bay Rays/Pirates — 1,250/1.
• Cleveland Indians, Los Angeles Angels/Pirates — 1,500/1.
• Boston Red Sox/Pirates — 2,000/1.
• Texas Rangers/Pirates — 3,000/1.
• Toronto Blue Jays/Pirates — 4,000/1.
