Scranton/Wilkes-Barre catcher Max McDowell (left) is hoping for a call-up to play for the New York Yankees.

Norwin graduate Max McDowell will be with a new team this baseball season.

The journeyman catcher, who will begin his eighth season in the minor leagues, will play for the Reading Fightin Phils, the Double-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies.

After spending most of last season with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRaiders, the New York Yankees’ Triple-A team, McDowell elected for free agency and was picked up by Philadelphia.

The 29-year-old will attend spring training with the Phillies.

Last season, McDowell slashed .193/.293/.278 with two home runs and 16 RBIs and 17 runs in 66 games.

Video of his mysterious, one-handed grab of a pitch went viral.

McDowell began his pro career in 2015 with the Milwaukee Brewers and became a High-A, Midwest League All-Star with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.

He has been with seven teams in eight years.
