Sugar Land Skeeters
JJ Matijevic plays during the 2022 season with the Triple-A Sugar Land Skeeters, an affiliate of the Houston Astros.

Things are looking up again for JJ Matijevic.

The power hitter was promoted to the Houston Astros for the second time this season from Triple-A Sugar Land.

The Astros’ No. 30-ranked prospect out of Norwin has hit 12 home runs and driven in 35 runs this season.

The first baseman was recalled when Jeremy Pena was placed on the 10-day injured list.

Matijevic, 26, was called up in April and appeared in five games, going hitless in five at-bats.

The fifth-year minor-leaguer, who bats from the left side but throws right-handed, is slashing .313/.373/.640 with 47 hits and 27 runs scored in 39 games this season with Sugar Land.

He has four homers in June, including a two-homer game against Las Vegas. Fans have come to love his bat flip.

In his last three games, Matijevic is 7 for 14 with three doubles, a triple, two homers and four RBIs.

The Astros have recalled IF/OF J.J. Matijevic from Triple A Sugar Land and have placed IF Jeremy Peña on the 10-day IL with left thumb discomfort.
