In case you needed a reminder: Billionaire Mark Cuban is not buying his hometown Pittsburgh Pirates.

Not today. Not tomorrow. Not ever.

The topic came, yet again, Wednesday after the Pirates collapsed in epic fashion, blowing a 10-3 lead to the Chicago Cubs en route to a 14-10 loss.

Pittsburgh author and blogger Virginia Montanez, whose handle is @janepitt, tagged Cuban in a post on X, “I am once again asking you to buy the Pittsburgh Pirates. I look forward to hearing from you soon re: this pressing matter.”

The post took off. It received nearly 3,000 likes and more than 200 reposts.

Cuban, a minority owner of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, even responded, questioning why owner Bob Nutting would ever sell the team.

“If someone offered you a job, that paid 25m or more per year, to stand in Market Square and let the entire city of Pittsburgh yell at you, would you take that job ? That job is owning the Pirates. Why would they sell ?” Cuban wrote.

The topic is nothing new. Fans have begged Cuban to buy the Pirates for years.

During the 2008 Stanley Cup Finals game vs. the Detroit Red Wings in Pittsburgh, a Detroit Free Press reporter spotted Cuban in the crowd and asked for an interview.

Cuban’s friend cautioned the reporter, “Sure, but please don’t ask him whether he is buying the Pirates.”
