Pittsburgh Pirates right fielder Gregory Polanco, who fractured his right wrist while sliding in winter ball in the Dominican Republic, reported to spring training in Bradenton, Fla., with no restrictions.

Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk proclaimed Polanco “100% ready to go” on Wednesday while delivering the first injury report of the season from Pirate City.

Polanco suffered a small, nondisplaced fracture of the triquetrum bone in his right wrist in late December, which required it to be immobilized for a few weeks. Pirates manager Derek Shelton said the club “felt good about” the severity of the injury.

Shelton was able to track Polanco’s progress as he worked with new assistant hitting coach Christian Marrero in Miami, where both men live.

“For them to start to develop a relationship, and then for us to be able to track it,” Shelton said, “I would probably say the last four or five times he hit, I saw the video of it because Christian was doing it with him.

In other Pirates injury news:

• Shortstop Kevin Newman is completely recovered from a contusion to the peroneal nerve in his left knee when he was hit by a 97 mph fastball by St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Genesis Cabrera in mid-September.

Tomczyk called it “nothing that hindered him from getting back into his normal offseason routine.”

• Outfielder Anthony Alford, who is recovering from right elbow surgery after crashing into the center-field wall at PNC Park last September, has no restrictions with hitting but is limited in his throwing. Tomczyk said Alford likely will initially serve as designated hitter in early Grapefruit League games before playing in the field.

“He did an excellent job during the offseason for his rehab program,” Tomczyk said. “He is having a little bit of challenges with the throwing, just to get more velocity on the balls and to continue to gain confidence, but we believe that we’re taking nice strides in regards to his throwing.”

Later Wednesday, the Pirates traded cash considerations to the Oakland Athletics in exchange for outfielder Dustin Fowler, adding insurance to the position.

• Left-handed pitcher Austin Davis experienced left elbow discomfort in mid-December, and he was diagnosed with a left elbow sprain. Tomczyk said Davis is doing advanced, two-handed plyometric work as part of the final stage before he begins a throwing program.

“So things are progressing and trending in the right direction,” Tomczyk said. “We hope to see him throwing in the coming days and the near future.”

• Right-hander Jose Soriano, acquired with the top pick in the Rule 5 Draft in December, is about 13 months into his recovery from Tommy John surgery and was placed on the 60-day injured list last week. Soriano is being closely monitored at Pirate City to assess his throwing mechanics.

“Looks good,” Tomczyk said. “Measurements are checking out. Range of motion is checking out very well from the performance team. We’re still learning right now just to see how he throws, how he moves, but you will see him on the field, obviously, throwing, and then after a short period of time, an assessment time of how mechanics look, how the ball’s coming out, we envision beginning and continuing a bullpen progression series.”
