Voted the greatest play in NFL history, “The Immaculate Reception” will get some screen time this weekend on NBC.
As part of the network’s “NFL 100: Greatest” series, the immaculate catch made by Pittsburgh Steelers running back Franco Harris in a 1972 playoff game against the Oakland Raiders will be the highlight of the 100 Greatest Plays package that will air from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday.
On Saturday, NBC will air a “Greatest Games” segment that will focus on the 1958 NFL Championship game between the Baltimore Colts and New York Giants, and the 1981 NFC Championship game between the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys that was highlighted by “The Catch” from New Eagle native Joe Montana to Dwight Clark.
The “Greatest Games” package will air from 2-4 p.m. and will be followed by a two-hour show commemorating some of the NFL’s “Greatest Game Changers,” a list that includes Pete Rozelle, Paul Brown, Al Davis, Bill Walsh and George Halas.
The series concludes Sunday when “The Immaculate Reception” tops the list of greatest catches.
The “NFL 100: Greatest” series, an NFL Films production, originally aired on NFL Network. The events were voted upon by an 80-member panel.
