Murrysville's Jackson makes ace in third round of South Beach Amateur
A hole-in-one can do wonders for a round of golf.
Palmer Jackson would know.
The Notre Dame junior and former Franklin Regional standout made an ace on the 153-yard third hole at Miami Beach Golf Club Tuesday in the third round of the South Beach International Amateur.
The highlight helped him post a 3-under-par 68 and climb the leaderboard to move within three shots of leader Finigan Tilly.
Jackson is in a four-way tie for third at 10-under 202 heading into the final round.
The 72-hole tournament is split over Miami Beach Golf Club and Normany Shores Golf Club.
Jackson shot 68 and 66 in his first two rounds.
Another local product also is in the field, but Greensburg’s Mark Goetz has plenty of work to do in his final 18.
Goetz, a grad student at West Virginia, is tied for 83rd at 7-over after rounds of 72, 68 and 78.
