The Pirates’ Jose Osuna is congratulated by teammate Phillip Evans (left) after hitting a two-run homer as Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina stands at the plate during the fourth inning Sunday, July 26, 2020, in St. Louis.

After postponing games since July 29 because of a coronavirus outbreak, the St. Louis Cardinals will return to playing with a doubleheader Saturday against the Chicago White Sox, and MLB announced a rescheduling of the Cardinals’ games against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The three-game series, originally scheduled for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at Busch Stadium, now will be played as part of a pair of doubleheaders.

• The first will be played Aug. 27 — a mutual off day for the teams — in St. Louis with the first game starting at 3:15 p.m. These games will make up for the Monday and Tuesday postponements.

• The second will be played Sept. 18 at PNC Park, with the Pirates serving as home team for the first game at 4:05 and the Cardinals being the home team for the second game, which will make up for Wednesday’s postponement.

The Cardinals also will make up the three-game series with the Chicago Cubs, originally scheduled for Aug. 7-9 at Busch Stadium, by playing three doubleheaders at Wrigley Field, on Aug. 17 and 19 and Sept. 5. The Cardinals also will play a doubleheader with the Minnesota Twins on Sept. 8, creating an off day by replacing the two-game series scheduled for Sept. 8-9.

The postponed doubleheader between the Cardinals and Detroit Tigers, scheduled for Thursday, will be rescheduled at a later date.

Catcher Yadier Molina and infielder Paul DeJong are among players who tested positive for the Cardinals, who have played just five games this season.

MLB said the league and the Cardinals believed it was “prudent to conduct additional testing while players and staff are quarantined before the team returns to play.”
