Minor league report: Penguins fall to Phantoms in shootout

Goaltender Alex D’Orio made 36 saves on 38 shots in regulation and overtime for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 3-2 home shootout loss to the rival Lehigh Valley Phantoms at WesBanco Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday.

Defenseman P.O Joseph recorded two assists for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (21-21-2-4) while forwards Jonathan Gruden and Filip Hallander each contributed regulation goals.

Highlights:

The Penguins’ next game is a road contest against the Bridgeport Islanders on Saturday, 7 p.m.

Goaltender Stefanos Lekkas made 33 saves on 36 shots for the Wheeling Nailers in a 4-1 home loss to the Reading Royals at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling.

Forward Patrick Watling scored the lone goal for Wheeling (27-19-1-0) which had a six-game winning streak snapped.

Highlights:

The Nailers’ next home contest against the Kalamazoo Wings on Friday, 7:10 p.m.
