Minor league report: Penguins fall to Checkers

Forward Vinnie Hinostroza had a goal and an assist for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 4-2 home loss to the Charlotte Checkers at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.

Linemate Sam Poulin recorded two assists for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (28-19-7-1) while forward Austin Rueschhoff contributed a goal.

Goaltender Magnus Hellberg made 28 saves on 31 shots as his recorded slipped to 9-8-2.

The Penguins’ next game is a road contest against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Friday, 7:05 p.m.


Forwards Dan Jankowski and Tanner Laderoute each had a goal and an assist for the Wheeling Nailers in a 7-4 road loss to the Fort Wayne Komets at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Defensemen Isaac Belliveau and forward Jarrett Lee both scored a goal for Wheeling (30-22-1-1), which has lost four consecutive games.

Making his ECHL debut, goaltender Christian Propp absorbed the loss after making 24 saves on 30 shots.

The Nailers’ next game is a home contest against the Cincinnati Cyclones on Sunday, 4:10 p.m.
