Minor league report: Penguins fall in regular season finale, Nailers take Game 5

In their regular season finale, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins were shut out by the rival Lehigh Valley Phantoms, 3-0, at the PPL Center in Allentown on Saturday.

Goaltender Alex D’Orio made 26 saves on 29 shots for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton which concluded the regular season with a four-game losing streak.

With a 35-33-4-4 record and 78 points, the Penguins finished in fourth place of the Atlantic Division.

Highlights:

The Penguins will open the Calder Cup playoffs with an Atlantic Division first round best-of-three series against the Hershey Bears on Friday.

The series schedule:

Game 1 - Friday, May 6 at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, 7:05 p.m.

Game 2 - Sunday, May 8 at Hershey, 5 p.m.

Game 3 - Monday, May 9 at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, 7:05 p.m. (if necessary)

Goaltender Louis-Philip Guindon made 21 saves on 23 shots and led the Wheeling Nailers to a 3-2 home win against the Fort Wayne Komets in Game 5 of their Central Division semifinal series at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va.

The Nailers lead the best-of-seven series, 3-2.

Forwards Sam Houde, Matthew Quercia and defenseman Josh Maniscalco each scored goals for Wheeling.

Highlights:

Game 6 at Fort Wayne is scheduled for Monday, 7:30 p.m.
