Minor league report: Penguins dropped by Senators in overtime

In his season debut at the American Hockey League level, goaltender Taylor Gauthier made 26 saves on 29 shots for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Belleville Senators at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.

A goal by Senators defenseman Jacob Larsson at 2:19 of overtime was the difference.

Forwards Austin Rueschhoff and Colin White each scored goals for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (5-4-1-0) which suffered its first non-regulation loss of the season.

The Penguins’ next game is a road contest against the Syracuse Crunch on Friday, 7 p.m.

In his season debut, goaltender David Tendeck made 15 saves on 17 shots for the Wheeling Nailers who defeated the Reading Royals, 3-2, in their home opener at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va.

Forward Justin Addamo recorded two assists for Wheeling (3-1-0-0) while defensemen Isaac Belliveau and Davis Bunz and forward Cédric Desruisseaux all contributed goals.

The Nailers’ next game is a home contest against the Royals on Sunday, 4:10 p.m.
