Minor league report: Penguins beat Crunch for 1st win

Forwards Chase Berger, Kyle Olson and defenseman Will Reilly each had a goal and an assist for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 5-4 road win against the Syracuse Crunch at Upstate Medical University Arena in Syracuse, N.Y. on Saturday. It was Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s first victory of the season.

Forward Jonathan Gruden recorded two assists for the Penguins (1-1-1) while forwards Jody Bellerive and Jan Drozg each added goals. Goaltender Emil Larmi made 29 saves on 33 shots for the victory.

The Penguins’ next game is a road contest against the rival Hershey Bears on Feb. 20, 1 p.m.

An overtime goal by forward Patrick McNally gave the Wheeling Nailers a 4-3 home win against the Fort Wayne Komets at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va. It was the Nailers’ second consecutive victory and gave them their first winning streak of the season.

Forward Lawton Courtnall had a goal and an assist for Wheeling (5-8-4) while goaltender Francois Brassard made 18 saves on 21 shots in the victory.

Highlights:

The Nailers’ next game is a home contest against the Indy Fuel on Sunday, 4:10 p.m.
