Minor league report: Josh Currie leads Penguins past Bears

Forward Josh Currie had two goals and an assist for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 6-3 home win against the rival Hershey Bears at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Sunday.

The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (8-11-3-2).

Forward Jonathan Gruden added a goal and an assist for the Penguins while forwards Drew O’Connor and Kyle Olson each recorded two assists. Goaltender Alex D’Orio made 26 saves on 29 shots in the win.

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Wednesday, 7 p.m.

Goaltender Shane Starrett made 30 saves on 33 shots for the Wheeling Nailers in a 5-3 home win against the Fort Wayne Komets at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va.

Forward Austin Fyten had two goals and an assist for Wheeling (17-26-5-1) while forward Nick Rivera added a goal and an assist.

The Nailers’ next game is a home contest against Indy Fuel on Wednesday, 7:10 p.m.
