Minor league report: Alexander Nylander leads Penguins past Marlies

Two goals and an assist by forward Alexander Nylander lead the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to a 5-1 home win against the Toronto Marlies at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

Forward Valtteri Puustinen scored the game-winning goal and recorded an assist for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (12-6-1-3) while forward Sam Poulin contributed two assists. Goaltender Alex D’Orio made 21 saves on 22 shots to earn his first win in the American Hockey League (AHL) this season (1-5-0).

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the Marlies on Saturday, 6:05 p.m.

Two goals by forward Cam Hausinger helped the Wheeling Nailers claim a 6-2 home victory against the Kalamazoo Wings at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling.

Forward Shaw Boomhauer added a goal and three assists for Wheeling (18-14-1-0) which has won three consecutive games while forward Nick Hutchison contributed a goal and an assist. Goaltender Stefanos Lekkas made 28 saves on 30 shots in the victory.

The Nailers’ next game is a home contest against the Iowa Heartlanders on Saturday, 7:10 p.m.
