Minor league report: Alex Nylander leads Penguins to first shootout win

A shootout goal by forward Alex Nylander gave the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins a 3-2 home win against the Springfield Falcons at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday. It was the Penguins’ first shootout victory of the season in four attempts.

Nylander and defenseman Mitch Reinke each scored regulation goals for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (20-21-2-3) while goaltender Tommy Nappier made 30 saves on 32 shots in the victory. Nappier was perfect on all three shots he faced in the shootout.

Former Pittsburgh Penguins forward James Neal scored a goal in regulaiton for Springfield.

The Penguins’ next game is a road contest against the rival Hershey Bears on Tuesday, 7 p.m.

Two goals by forward Cam Hausinger led the Wheeling Nailers to a 5-3 road win against the Reading Royals at Santander Arena in Reading.

Forwards Tim Doherty and Patrick Watling each had a goal and two assists for Wheeling (26-18-1-0) while forward Sean Josling contributed a goal and an assist. Goaltender Brody Claeys made 21 saves on 24 shots in the victory.

Highlights:

The Nailers’ next game is a home contest against the Royals on Tuesday, 7:10 p.m.
