Mercer knocks off Robert Morris in Hostilo Hoops Community Classic
SAVANNAH, Ga. — Kamar Robertson had 17 points in Mercer’s 72-66 victory against Robert Morris on Friday night.
Robertson also contributed seven rebounds for the Bears (3-3). Jalyn McCreary scored 14 points while shooting 7 of 16 from the field and added six rebounds. Michael Zanoni was 5-of-11 shooting (3 for 5 from distance) to finish with 14 points.
Kahliel Spear led the Colonials (2-3) in scoring, finishing with 24 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. Robert Morris also got 19 points and five steals from Michael Green III. Enoch Cheeks also recorded 11 points, nine rebounds, five assists, two steals and three blocks.
“It’s hard to win a game at any level when you go for 1 for 17 from 3 in 2022,” RMU coach Andrew Toole said. “Credit Mercer, as I thought they did a good job pushing us off the line in the first half, but in the second half I thought we had some clean looks and they just didn’t fall. That really was the case overall in the second half, as I thought the shots we took were open looks and were within the flow of our offense. We just didn’t knock them down. We’ll go back and work with guys and look at the shots we took since we have a quick turnaround for tomorrow.”
RMU will play the second game of the Hostilo Hoops Community Classic Saturday, with a 5 p.m. tip against Evansville. The Aces dropped their opening game of the tournament, 78-67, to South Alabama.
