Maryland running back Ty Johnson visited with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday, April 15, 2019.

As the Pittsburgh Steelers head into the home stretch of the predraft interview process, they hosted two under-the-radar players Monday.

Visiting UPMC Rooney Sports Complex were Maryland running back Ty Johnson and Murray State linebacker Quintin Williams. That brings the number of official visitors to 28, two shy of the limit. The Steelers also have hosted three local players for visits that don’t count against that total.

The three-week predraft process concludes this week.

Neither Johnson nor Williams was invited to the NFL Combine.

Johnson, a 5-foot-10, 212-pound tailback, rushed for 1,004 yards as a sophomore but gained only 506 yards as a senior when he was slowed by a calf injury. Johnson, though, averaged 7.7 yards per carry in his final year with the Terrapins.

Johnson also is a threat on special teams, returning two kickoffs for touchdowns — one against Ohio State and the other against Michigan. He is one of four players in school history to surpass 4,000 all-purpose yards.

Johnson reportedly ran a 4.33 40-yard dash time in training for Maryland’s pro day, and social media accounts had him lowering that number when he ran in front of more than 40 NFL scouts.

Williams is a 5-10, 239-pound linebacker who was invited to the postseason Collegiate Bowl. As a senior, Williams had 111 tackles (78 solo), which led the Ohio Valley Conference. He had 9.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions.

Of the Steelers’ 31 total visitors, they have met with seven linebackers, seven running backs, five cornerbacks, four wide receivers, three safeties, three tight ends, one defensive end and one offensive lineman.
