Laurel Valley to host '23 Arnold Palmer Cup match
It seems appropriate that an event in his name should be played in his backyard.
The 27th Arnold Palmer Cup matches will be contested at Laurel Valley Golf Club in Ligonier, tournament organizers announced Wednesday.
The event, which uses a Ryder Cup-style format, will be June 8-10 and feature top men and women college players with United States teams taking on an international team.
Laurel Valley Golf Club is set to host the 2023 Arnold Palmer Cup.
This June, 48 of the best collegiate golfers from around the globe will compete for the #APCup on a course deeply tied to the legacy of Arnold Palmer.

“Western Pennsylvania is home for our family,” said Amy Palmer Saunders, the granddaughter of Latrobe legend Arnold Palmer. “Latrobe is where my father learned the game and the values that made him the person he became. My father had a deep connection to Laurel Valley and was intimately involved in, and supported, the life of the club from its inception until his passing, and it is our hope that this generation of college golfers can experience Laurel Valley and leave with a better understanding of why it is such a big part of Arnold Palmer’s legacy and a place that he cared about deeply.”
Laurel Valley, situated between the Laurel Ridge and Chestnut Ridge mountains, hosted the 1965 PGA Championship, 1975 Ryder Cup, 1989 U.S. Senior Open, 2001 Marconi Pennsylvania Classic and 2005 Senior PGA Championship.
The Dick Wilson design measures 7,427 yards and offers a number of scenic views. Its signature hole is a 598-yard par-5 that doglegs a pond on the right.
“Naturally, with the long and extraordinary relationship that (Laurel Valley) has enjoyed with Arnold Palmer and his family, hosting this event will be most special and fitting for our great club,” club president Lou Cestello said. “Since the club’s inception in 1959, few people have had a greater impact on our club than Arnold Palmer.”
The teams will be announced in the spring. Last year, Murrysville’s Palmer Jackson, named after Arnold Palmer, played on the U.S. Palmer Cup team in Switzerland.
Jackson is a senior at Notre Dame.
