Kevin Newman goes on Pirates' injured list; Kevin Kramer recalled from Indy
The Pittsburgh Pirates recalled infielder Kevin Kramer from Triple-A Indianapolis to replace infielder Kevin Newman, who was put on the 10-day injured list with a laceration on his right middle finger.
There are currently 10 players on the Pirates’ injury list. Newman’s placement is retroactive to Tuesday. He was injured Wednesday while helping set up a pitching machine, MLB.com reported.
Kramer hit safely in all six games he played for Indianapolis this season (6 for 26), with two walks and two RBIs.
In his Pirates debut last September, Kramer played in 21 games, collecting five hits in 37 at-bats. He started four games at second base and three at third base.
In a related move, Indianapolis promoted infielder Alfredo Reyes from Double-A Altoona. Infielder Stephen Alemais was assigned to Altoona from the short-season West Virginia Black Bears’ roster.
