The Baltimore Orioles clubbed 19 hits for a 13-0 win Thursday in Sarasota, Fla., that kept the Pittsburgh Pirates winless during spring training.
Among the eight pitchers for the Pirates (0-6) who were hit the hardest was closer Keone Kela. He allowed three extra-base hits, including a Pat Valaika two-run homer, and threw a wild pitch during the third inning.
Geoff Hartlieb (five runs on four hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning), Chris Stratton (three hits, two walks, two runs in one inning) and Cody Ponce (two runs on four hits in one inning) also had rough outings.
Stratton allowed two home runs and Ponce one.
The only Pirates pitchers with scoreless innings were Hector Noesi (one hit over the first two innings), Yacksel Rios (two strikeouts and a walk in the sixth) and Luis Escobar (two singles in the eighth).
Colin Moran went 2 for 3 with a double, the only extra-base hit the Pirates managed off five Baltimore pitchers.
The Pirates play the Orioles at 1:05 p.m. Friday in a televised game at LECOM Park in Bradenton, Fla. Trevor Williams, Steven Brault, JT Brubaker, Michael Feliz, Chad Kuhl, Edgar Santana and Nik Turley are scheduled to pitch for the Pirates.
