Kahliel Spear's double-double propels Robert Morris over IUPUI
MOON TOWNSHIP — Kahliel Spear had 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead Robert Morris to a 77-70 victory over IUPUI on Monday night.
Enoch Cheeks and Josh Corbin added 16 points apiece for the Colonials (8-9, 3-3 Horizon League). Corbin made 4 of 9 shots from 3-point range.
Cheeks’ late 3-pointer ignited an 8-1 run that gave the Colonials a 71-64 advantage with 49 seconds remaining.
“Fortunate to be able to come out of here with a win tonight,” RMU coach Andrew Toole said. “Give IUPUI credit. Each and every game that I’ve watched as we were preparing to play them, they continue to play for 40 minutes. They fight for each and every possession. They certainly outplayed us in the second half. Fortunately we were able to make some plays down the stretch. Enoch’s three was huge.”
Senior guard Michael Green III had eight assists in the first half and finished with 12 points and 11 assists.
“I felt like I was able to get in the lane, and my teammates made open shots,” Green III said. “I wouldn’t be able to get those assists without those guys finishing. It’s nothing different, really. It’s about staying connected with my teammates, as always. We were able to make shots tonight at a high clip, especially in the first half.”
Chris Osten topped the Jaguars (3-14) with 21 points. Jlynn Counter added 14 points, and Daylan Hamilton scored 11.
Both teams play Thursday. Robert Morris visits Oakland, and IUPUI hosts Purdue Fort Wayne.
