Four players who missed the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 24-17 victory against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday night because of injuries could be back on the field after the bye week and play Oct. 28 against the Miami Dolphins.

Coach Mike Tomlin said Wednesday that fullback Roosevelt Nix, wide receiver James Washington, inside linebacker Mark Barron and cornerback Steve Nelson are “progressing nicely” and could return to practice next week.

After having four days off, Steelers players will resume workouts Monday at the UMPC Rooney Sports Complex.

Nix hasn’t played since Week 1 against New England because of a knee injury. Washington (shoulder), Barron (hamstring) and Nelson (groin) each have missed one game.

Tomlin doesn’t expect fullback Jaylen Samuels, who underwent arthroscopic surgery on his knee last week, to be available for the Dolphins game.

“He’s probably not a candidate in the ways that other guys will be,” Tomlin said.

Players injured in the game against the Chargers, a list that includes running back James Conner (quad), cornerback Joe Haden (groin) and outside linebacker T.J. Watt (abdomen), could be limited in practice next week but are expected to play against Miami.

Defensive end Stephon Tuitt, who was placed on injured reserve Tuesday with a torn pectoral muscle, is scheduled to undergo season-ending surgery “as soon as today,” Tomlin said.
