James Conner, Ramon Foster return to practice on limited basis for Steelers
Running back James Conner returned to practice Wednesday on a limited basis for the Pittsburgh Steelers as they began preparations for their game Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams at Heinz Field.
Conner, the team’s leading rusher and second-leading receiver, did not practice last week and was inactive against the Indianapolis Colts with a shoulder injury.
Also not practicing because of injury were wide receiver Ryan Switzer (back), running back Trey Edmunds (ribs) and fullback Roosevelt Nix (knee). Rookie running back Benny Snell (knee) also did not practice after undergoing knee surgery last week.
Sitting out practice because of non-injury reasons were linebacker Mark Barron, center Maurkice Pouncey and tight end Vance McDonald.
Guard Ramon Foster, who did not play against the Colts because of a concussion, was a limited participant. He remains in the NFL concussion protocol.
With Foster and Pouncey not available for team drills, B.J. Finney moved from left guard to center, and Matt Feiler moved from right tackle to left guard.
“They just wanted to get me some reps to stay fresh there,” said Feiler, who was used at guard when he made his NFL debut with the Steelers in 2017.
Faced with a similar circumstance last Wednesday, practice squad center Patrick Morris filled in for Pouncey, while Finney and Feiler stayed at their regular positions.
Rams wide receiver Brandin Cooks already was ruled out of the game Sunday because of a concussion.
