Hurricanes respond to Don Cherry’s ’bunch of jerks’ comment with new T-shirt
If your team gets called out by a talking head on TV, what do you do? Sell T-shirts.
That’s how the Carolina Hurricanes responded Sunday afternoon after hockey commentator Don Cherry referred to the team as “a bunch of jerks.”
The team introduced new shirts with the “Bunch of jerks” phrase above the Hurricanes’ logo. The “C” in the jersey includes the team’s hurricane warning flags logo.
They’ll be available soon for $32.
We’re a bunch of jerks and we have the shirts to prove it.

On Saturday night 85-year-old Cherry went off on the team:
“These guys to me are jerks.… And I’ll tell you one thing, they better not do this in the playoffs. This is a joke.”
Cherry continued sarcastically, “Young men expressing themselves for joy of winning. You don’t do this thing in professional hockey. What are these guys? Jerks or something?
“I know what I’m talking about. You never do anything like that. They’re still not drawing. They’re a bunch of jerks as far as I’m concerned. Imagine Justin Williams doing stuff like that.”
After that rant, the Hurricanes quickly changed their Twitter bio to: “That bunch of jerks with the fun celebrations.”
Here’s a sample of the team’s victory celebration — a limbo line:
