Among Larry Richert’s fondest memories in his long broadcasting career involve another Pittsburgh icon.

Richert went with Bruno Sammartino to his hometown in Italy in 2010 to learn more about the WWE superstar’s life.

When they got there, Richert quickly realized how much Sammartino meant to his hometown. Locals expressed their admiration, some even naming their children after him. Sammartino’s status in the WWE — he sold out Madison Square Garden as a WWE headliner 188 times — prompted Arnold Schwarzenegger to call him “the greatest immigration story in history.”

Richert joins Gus Frerotte and Dave Hager to discuss his memories of Sammartino, growing up with sports in his life and more about his long broadcasting and announcing career and what makes him love Pittsburgh so much in this week’s “Huddle Up with Gus” podcast.
