For the fifth year in a row, defensive lineman Cameron Heyward was named a captain by his Pittsburgh Steelers teammates. It’s an honor he doesn’t take for granted.

“There are a lot of deserving guys who are leaders on this team,” Heyward said Monday. “Throughout the year, I want to be accountable in that sense.”

The Steelers elected four captains, the same number they had in 2018. Heyward, center Maurkice Pouncey and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger are repeat choices. The special teams captain will be fullback Roosevelt Nix, who replaces kicker Chris Boswell in that role.

Roethlisberger was chosen for the 11th time in his career and for the ninth year in a row. Pouncey is a three-time selection. Nix was chosen for the first time.

“It’s a great team award for guys,” Pouncey said. “I don’t look at it as something to brag about.”

Like Heyward, Pouncey said other deserving players can be found throughout the Steelers locker room.

“A lot of guys come every single day and push young guys in the right way,” Pouncey said. “We’ve got a great group of guys.”
