Hempfield graduate Kason Harrell scored 56 points in an Irish Super League game Saturday.

Kason Harrell felt like his play had been slumping lately and he wasn’t living up to his own expectations.

So much for that.

The former Hempfield standout and second-year professional put on a show Saturday for the Killestar Basketball Club’s Team Pyrobel, scoring 56 points in an Irish Super League game in Dublin.

The 25-year-old guard was virtually unstoppable as he made 21 of 31 shots — 17 of 25 two-point field goals and 4 of 6 from behind the 3-point line — and all 10 of his free throws. Killestar defeated Garveys Warriors, 102-87.

“I was just able to get to the rim and finish and able to get to the line,” said Harrell, whose previous high as a pro was 27 points.

His career highs at Hempfield and at Purdue Fort Wayne were 36 and 28.

“All glory to God as always,” Harrell said. “It was just one of those games where it felt like almost everything was going in. My teammates were feeding me the ball and kept telling me to be aggressive.”

Harrell is averaging 22.2 points in 10 games.

“I haven’t been playing great this year,” he said, “so hopefully this game can get me on track and as a team we get go on a little bit of a run.”

Last season was cut short because of the pandemic, so Harrell is looking to build momentum as he chases his dream of playing in the NBA.

He is the all-time leading scorer at Hempfield with 1,905 points and totaled 1,349 at Fort Wayne. After a brief stint with the NBA G League’s Fort Wayne Mad Ants, an affiliate of the Indiana Pacers, he was released and fell short of making the season roster before joining Killestar.
