Nick Guidas was up bright and early in Davenport, Fla., never knowing he was going to have a perfect day.
The Grove City baseball pitcher tossed a perfect game Thursday morning as the Wolverines blanked Illinois College, 6-0, at Northeast Regional Park. Guidas, a junior from Pine-Richland, retired 27 batters on 105 pitches and struck out 14, including eight of the last nine hitters for the Wolverines (8-3).
Guidas, a junior, threw 76 strikes and only 29 balls, and only two pitches were put in play: a pair of flyouts to center fielder Nick Sampson, a freshman from Peters Township.

It was the second perfect game for Grove City in three years.
Current senior Tate Ostrowski was perfect in an 8-0, seven-inning win over Bethany on April 23, 2021.
Sampson ripped a two-run double, while sophomore third baseman Shane Cato had two RBIs, and sophomore second baseman Luke Vittone (Eden Christian) had one.
