Frontier League, Washington Wild Things postpone start of season
The Frontier League announced Wednesday that the start of its season will officially be delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.
The Washington Wild Things, members of the league since 2002, were scheduled to open their season May 15-17 with a three-game series against the New York Boulders in Rockland County, N.Y. Their home opener was set for May 19 against the Quebec Capitales.
The league did not announce a rescheduled date for its openers.
“The safety of our fans, players and team employees is our highest priority at this time,” commissioner Bill Lee said in a press release. “We are committed to doing everything in our power to play baseball in 2020 and will continue to track the pandemic as well as federal, state and local social distancing requirements in all of our markets.”
The league announced its tryout camp and draft scheduled for April 27-28 in Avon, Ohio, has also been postponed indefinitely.
“It is our goal to hold our tryout camp, spring training and start our season as soon as possible,” Lee said. “Our board of directors is meeting weekly to monitor and discuss the situation, and we will provide updates as the pandemic progresses.”
