Pirates catcher Francisco Cervelli is checked by trainer Bryan Housand, as manager Clint Hurdle looks on during the fifth inning against the Rockies Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at PNC Park.

Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Francisco Cervelli recorded his first hit since May 12, but played only five innings Tuesday night against the Colorado Rockies in his first appearance in five games.

In the top of the fifth, Cervelli was hit in the chest by a foul tip off the bat of the Rockies’ David Dahl. He batted in the bottom of the inning and singled to right field, but he was replaced by Elias Diaz in the sixth.

The Pirates later announced that Cervelli left the game because of an upper chest contusion.

Cervelli had missed the previous four games after getting only five hits in 30 at-bats. With one hit in two at-bats Tuesday, his average increased from .179 to .185.
