Steelers offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert (77) plays against the Kansas City Chiefs in an NFL football game Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018, in Pittsburgh.

Another long-time member of the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line decided to retire.

Marcus Gilbert, who spent his first eight seasons playing right tackle for the Steelers, announced his decision Monday on social media.

Thank you for all of the support over the years. I can’t wait to share my next chapter of life with you all. pic.twitter.com/JjCQ4xGwgE

Gilbert, the Steelers’ second-round pick in the 2011 draft, spent his final two years in Arizona but never played in a game for the Cardinals. Gilbert tore his ACL in a practice before the 2019 season opener and missed the entire season. He opted out of the 2020 season because of concerns about covid-19.

“I will forever remain grateful for the memories, experiences, friendships and successes football has provided me,” Gilbert said in a Twitter post. “I am thankful for the coaches, doctors, trainers and staff that have helped me along the way.”

Gilbert offered a “special thank you” to the Steelers organization and its fan base, calling them the “best fans in the National Football League.”

In a separate post, Gilbert acknowledged his relationships with linemen Ramon Foster, Maurkice Pouncey, Alejandro Villanueva and David DeCastro. Foster retired after the 2019 season, Pouncey retired in January and Villanueva is an unrestricted free agent who remains unemployed.

To my brother @RamonFoster @MaurkicePouncey Al Villanueva David Decastro The best part about playing ball was to come to work and share the field with you guys! Best group of guys anyone could ask for and appreciate every moment!
