The Penguins selected defenseman Joe Morrow with their first-round pick (No. 23 overall) in the 2011 NHL Draft.

Former Penguins defenseman Joe Morrow signed with HC Davos of Switzerland’s National League on Tuesday.

The transaction was announced by the team via a release.

Morrow, 30, opened the 2022-23 campaign with HK Sochi of Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) but had his contract terminated on Friday. In 31 KHL games this season, Morrow, a native of Edmonton, Alberta, had nine assists.

The Penguins’ first-round pick (No. 23 overall) in 2011, Morrow never played for the organization at the NHL level but has suited up for the Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadiens and Winnipeg Jets. His most recent NHL games came in 2018-19.

In March of 2013, the Penguins traded Morrow and a fifth-round pick in the 2013 NHL draft to the Dallas Stars in exchange for veteran forward Brenden Morrow — no relation — and a third-round pick in that same draft, which was used to select future All-Star forward Jake Guentzel.

Follow the Penguins all season long.
