Todd Summers plans to play his final year of college football closer to home.

The former Franklin Regional standout who entered the NCAA transfer portal a few weeks ago with the intention of leaving Villanova has a new destination. He announced Monday he will enroll at Duquesne, where he will enter the school’s Master of Business Administration program as a grad student and take advantage of a fifth year of athletic eligibility.

When the Colonial Athletic Association opted to move football to the spring because of health and safety concerns over the coronavirus outbreak, Summers decided to pick up and move back across the state.

He would have been a senior tight end for the Wildcats but now hopes to finish his college career with the Dukes.

Villanova was only able to provide fifth-year seniors with one semester worth of a scholarship, which ultimately changed Summers’ outlook on his future.

The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Summers had 34 receptions for 364 yards and six touchdowns last season. He was a preseason fourth-team All-American heading into 2020.
