Former NHL forward Kevin Porter spent parts of two seasons with the Penguins, each of which ended with the team winning the Stanley Cup.

A member of the Pittsburgh Penguins’ two most recent Stanley Cup championship teams is back with the organization.

Former forward Kevin Porter had been hired as an assistant coach with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL).

He joins head coach J.D. Forrest on Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s bench for the upcoming season.

The hiring brings an end to Porter’s 13-year playing career that included parts of eight seasons in the NHL. In addition to playing for the Penguins, he also spent time with the Phoenix Coyotes, Colorado Avalanche and Buffalo Sabres. For the past three seasons, Porter was captain of the Rochester Americans, AHL affiliate of the Sabres.

Porter, 34, was a member of the Penguins for two seasons, each of which resulted in the franchise claiming the Stanley Cup.

His name was engraved on the Stanley Cup for the 2016 championship, having played 41 games during the regular season, the minimum requirement to receive that honor.

In 43 career games with the Penguins, he had three assists.

A star at Michigan, Porter claimed the Hobey Baker Award, which recognizes the NCAA’s top player, in 2008.

The AHL’s season is scheduled to begin Feb. 5.
