District college roundup: Robert Morris rallies past St. Francis (Pa.)
Anthony Chiccitt threw for three touchdowns to three different targets and Robert Morris pulled away in the second half to beat St. Francis (Pa.), 31-21, on Saturday.
Chiccitt also caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from wideout Connor Becker to give the Colonials a 10-7 lead.
Chiccitt threw an 8-yard score to Noah Robinson with 34 seconds before halftime to put the Colonials (1-1) in front 17-14 and they never trailed again. After intermission, he led a six-play, 65-yard drive to start the half that ended with a 6-yard TD pass to Landen Lucas to create a 10-point margin. Early in the fourth he connected with Chaz Middleton on a 12-yard score for a 31-14 lead.
St. Francis’ (0-2) Coyle Doyle threw for 187 yards — 111 to receiver Casey McKinney — and a touchdown also to McKinney.
Division II
Bloomsburg 21, Clarion 7 — Bloomsburg (1-1) took down Clarion (1-1) in a nonconference matchup. Matt Buchman and Kaleb Monaco had touchdown runs, and Nate Capers intercepted a pass in the end zone. Will Alexander scored on a 7-yard run for Clarion.
Cal (Pa.) 31, Kutztown 20 — Cal (Pa.) (1-0) scored three touchdowns in the last six minutes of the game as the Vulcans rallied to defeat Kutztown (0-2). Down 20-10, Davis Black hit Eric Willis III with a 17-yard scoring pass followed by Black’s 2-yard run with 57 second left to put the Vulcans ahead, 24-20. Eric McCann III scored on a 3-yard run 37 seconds later to put the game away. Black threw for 192 yards and a touchdown and McCann III ran for 97 yards and two TDs. Judd Noval threw for 194 yards and two touchdowns for Kutztown.
East Stroudburg 13, IUP 12 — Randy Fizer caught a 59-yard TD pass with 1:30 left to lead East Stroudburg (2-0) to a nonconference win over IUP (1-1). Nick Andrasi kicked 43- and 31-yard field goals, and Derek Lockhart caught a 39-yard TD pass from Karst Hunter for IUP.
Millersville 28, Gannon 21 — Jaquan Howard scored twice and Brian Richardson caught a 28-yard TD pass with 29 seconds left to lift Millersville (2-0, 0-0) to a PSAC nonconference victory over Gannon (0-2, 0-0). Nate Mikell threw three touchdown passes for Gannon.
Shepherd 35, Edinboro 28 — Seth Morgan threw for 413 yards and two touchdowns to lead Shepherd (2-0) to victory at Edinboro (0-2). Cameron Dorner caught 10 passes for 201 yards and a touchdown for Shepherd. Brian Trobel ran for 93 yards and two touchdowns for Edinboro. Shepherd outgained Edinboro, 541 yards to 337 yards.
Seton Hill 28, Shippensburg 23 — Ethan Fame caught three passes for 104 yards and a 64-yard touchdown from Hayden Teska as Seton Hill (1-1) defeated Shippensburg (0-2). The Griffins trailed by 10 after 15 minutes before scoring 21 points in the second quarter. Teska threw for 209 yards and two touchdowns Sam Johnson III tossed for 184 yards and two TDs for Shippensburg.
Slippery Rock 49, West Chester 24 — Brayden Long was 19 fo 24 for 312 yards and four touchdowns as Slippery Rock (2-0) won a nonconference game over West Chester (1-1). The Rock piled up 544 yards of offense and averaged 8.4 yards per play.
Mercyhurst 41, Lock Haven 29 — Adam Urena threw for 311 yards and five touchdowns to lead Mercyhurst (1-1) to a nonconference win.
Division III
Carnegie Mellon 38, Saint Vincent 0 — The Tartans recorded their second straight shutout with a Presidents’ Athletic Conference victory over Saint Vincent (0-2, 0-2). Carnegie Mellon accumulated 406 yards and held Saint Vincent to 164 and three interceptions. CMU’s Ben Mills threw for 216 yards and two touchdowns. Carnegie Mellon (2-0, 2-0) has won 17 straight PAC games.
Geneva 27, Allegheny 21 — Darin Myers scored on an 8-yard run with 1:02 left in the game to put Geneva (1-1, 1-1) over Allegheny (1-1, 1-1) in PAC play. Myers threw for 109 yards and a touchdown and ran for 84 yards and two TDs. Jack Johnson threw for 264 yards and two touchdowns for Allegheny while teammate Declan O’Brien caught 13 passes for 158 yards and a TD.
Grove City 43, Waynesburg 27 — Grove City (2-0, 2-0) forced four turnovers and ran for five touchdowns en route to a PAC victory. Jack Jollie (Penn-Trafford), Gabe Dunlap (Penn-Trafford) and Dom Magliocco (Montour) all had interceptions, and Jollie forced a fumble in the fourth quarter. Running back Nico Flati (West Allegheny) and quarterback Logan Pfeuffer (Peters Township) each ran for two touchdowns. Justin Flack (Derry) scored on an 81-yard TD run, and Isaac Trout (Southmoreland) caught an 8-yard TD pass for Waynesburg (0-2, 0-2).
Washington & Jefferson 42, Bethany 7 — W&J (2-0, 2-0) opened up a 28-0 lead and rolled to a PAC victory over Bethany (0-1, 0-1). Jacob Pugh (Thomas Jefferson) threw for 294 yards and five touchdown passes, including two to John Peduzzi and Anthony Rosati. Peduzzi had four catches for 161 yards, and Rosati had five receptions for 102 yards.
Westminster 28, Thiel 7 — Westminster (1-1) piled up 307 yards of offense en route to a PAC win. Ty McGowan (Moon) threw for 173 yards and two touchdowns, and Lane Voytik threw a 49-yard TD pass to Chevy Dawson on fourth-and-2 late in the first half to take a 28-0 halftime lead. Taite Beachy (Moon) also ran for a 27-yard score in the win.
