Pitt defensive lineman Calijah Kancey (8) plays against Miami during an NCAA college football game Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021, in Pittsburgh. Kancey was named the Associated Press All-ACC defensive player of the year on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2022.

Pitt defensive tackle Calijah Kancey is officially recognized as a consensus All-American after he was named Tuesday to the first team by the Sporting News, his fourth separate designation since the end of the regular season.

He previously was honored by the Associated Press, Football Writers Association of America and Walter Camp Football Foundation.

Kancey is the fourth Pitt player to earn consensus All-America status in the past three seasons, joining defensive ends Patrick Jones II and Rashad Weaver (2020) and wide receiver Jordan Addison (2021). He is Pitt’s 55th all-time consensus All-American, ranking the Panthers eighth among 131 FBS schools and first in the ACC.

Kancey also was named ACC Defensive Player of the Year and a finalist for the Outland Trophy (nation’s top interior lineman) and Bronko Nagurski Trophy (national defensive player of the year). College Football Network named him the National Defensive Tackle of the Year.

The final official All-America squad (American Football Coaches Association) will be released Wednesday.
